Absolutely, providing the bond is tight and the coach is good at his or her job. Any person that's ever been a fan of any sport, or a singer, or a musician or an actor knows that a good coach is essential not to just achieve success - but to maintain the highest levels of success. Coaching is all around us. It comes in many forms and is described by other names. Manager. Advisor. Coordinator. Teacher. Guru. Crew Chief. Trainer. Consultant. Team Captain. Group Leader. Mentor. Our lives are full of people that hold these positions and they often are, in some way or another, a coach - and we are considered to be, in some way or another, a member of their team.
One final point. Teams (or in business, a company or corporation) that underperform almost always see a coaching change long before a star player gets traded or an employee gets fired. You'll hear the term “The coach lost the team” used quite often in those instances. And the change in the coach or coaching staff often brings about success. That's living proof of the importance of good coaching, and that good coaching does work.
Right now, as you're reading this, someone successful is being coached. That could easily be you.
